The Waimea Arts Council’s Firehouse Gallery will be hosting its annual “New Artists” show from January 8 through January 26, 2014. This show introduces artists who are new to the Council, but not necessarily new to art, to the community. The show is unusual in that each artist’s work is accompanied by a brief biography and photograph of the artist.
Participants include award-winner Jaclyn MacKinnon, who works in acrylics; Mary Fallon, a bas-relief wood sculptor and painter; and Sam Cudney, who specializes in enhanced photographs. Pat Dinsman, a tireless volunteer for the council, will exhibit examples of her quilting and stained glass art as well as her paintings. Diane Foster will exhibit her quilts and husband Scott will show his photographs, watercolors, and mixed media work. WAC expects to showcase more than a dozen new-to-the-council talents in this show.
WAC will also host a reception for the artists, open to the public, from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, January 10.
The Firehouse Gallery, a project of the Waimea Arts Council, is located in the heart of downtown Kamuela in South Kohala’s historic old fire station, at the crossroads of Mamalahoa Highway and Lindsey Rd. (Hwy. 19 and 190), across from the Waimea Chevron. Free parking is available in the back. Hours are 11am – 3 pm Wed., Thurs., Fri., Sun. and 9 am – 3 pm on Saturdays.
